DANCING DOWNTOWN

Chita Rivera is one of the greatest dancers of all time.  But you don’t have to be as talented as Chita to dance downtown at Playhouse Square!  Our Arts Education Department offers four different adult dance classes for a variety of skill levels.  Here’s a look at some of the classes and the instructors who teach them:

Ballroom Blitz – March 24

Have a wedding to attend?  Want your significant other to learn how to dance?  Looking to try something new?  Join us for a day of ballroom dancing instruction!  Learn the basics of four different styles – waltz/fox trot, Argentine tango, mambo/cha cha and swing – from the lovely Rebecca Sweet of Viva dance!.

REbeccaRebecca Sweet, owner of Viva dance!, is a Cleveland native. After graduating from Smith College with a degree in dance, Rebecca moved to NYC where she spent 10 years performing, competing and teaching Latin and Ballroom dance. Two years ago, Rebecca returned to her hometown to open the New York Style partner dance studio, Viva dance!.

In addition, Rebecca has worked with Robert DeNiro, Daman Wayans, Winton Marsalis, Chayanne and Vanessa Williams, Method Man, RZA and other well-known artists.

While in New York, Rebecca was a member of the world-famous Eddie Torres Latin Dance Company. As a competitive Latin dancer she has competed, performed and taught all over the globe in such places as Greece, Turkey, Italy and Holland.

Rebecca is a member of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), the National Dance Council of America (NDCA) and the World Dance and Dance Sport Council (WDDSC).
