Joe
Garry |
For the past 33 years, Joe Garry has directed operas,
musicals, plays and concerts. He has worked extensively with symphonies,
rock bands, European theaters, jazz bands and Broadway gypsies. With
his partner David O. Frazier, he has created original musicals such
as The Arabian Knight, a musical journey into Sir Richard Burton’s
ether-soaked brain. Joe has staged concerts for Marvin Hamlisch, Sarah
Vaughn, Bobby Short, Ray Charles, Betty Buckley and the late Rosemary
Clooney. He was honored to stage Audrey Hepburn’s final tour for
UNICEF. Joe was also commissioned to script and stage a tribute honoring
Duke Ellington’s 100th birthday, starring such jazz greats as
Louis Belson, Oleta Adams and David Sandbourn. He has created more than
20 original scripts, including a theatrical biography on the Irish Playwright
Brendan Behan.
Joe is no stranger to Playhouse Square. He was actively
involved in the restoration of the Playhouse Square Center theaters
in the early 1970s. In fact, he directed the Jacques Brel production
that played for two and a half years during that time; a production
that grabbed the attention of so many greater Clevelanders that it served
as the major catalyst in the theater restoration project. He also co-authored
two hit productions that played at Playhouse Square: Irish Rascals
and Alice at the Palace.
We are sure Joe will move you right on in to the Palace
Theatre feeling even more excited to see Movin’ Out.
And, don’t miss him when he returns to host Rodgers and Hammerstein’s
Oklahoma in May.
Post-Show Chats with the Cast
Post-Show Chats with the Cast are scheduled in the Palace Theatre Upper
Lobby following the Thursday, February 10th and 17th
performances.
Broadway Backstage Master Class
Michael Cavanaugh will return to his alma mater, Midpark High School
in Middleburg Heights, to spend time with aspiring music and theater
students. Playhouse Square Center’s Arts Education Department
is committed to providing valuable opportunities to aspiring artists,
students and audiences and we are thrilled to offer this amazing workshop
to the students of Midpark. We thank Michael, the casts of Movin’
Out and all the Broadway shows for their continued support of our
arts education programs and for sharing their talents and gifts with
Northeast Ohio.
